Highway- two stories in one movie

This is probably the most scenically beautiful movie I have seen in past 12 months. Beautiful music, beautiful actress Alia Bhatt, manly Randeep Hooda, a perfect aam aadmi truck and sets, and yet there were two stories woven into one.

The first one is that of an outlaw and a group of outlaws, kidnapping a woman and then the woman falling in love with the spirit of freedom and then the outlaw repenting for his past way of life. The woman. Alia Bhatt, found her all kinds of freedom in the beautiful mountains of Himachal Pradesh and discovering her own self by being very close to the nature walking on the nature.

The outlaw, Randeep Hooda, by watching the loving nature of the woman, blended with the beautiful nature, found a new way of life and the feel of a normal life. He also discovered himself.

That was the first and the principal story.

The second story was that of child abuse. It took me by surprise because this is too serious an issue to club it with another story of freedom. Although the director Imtiaz Ali tried his best to bring together the suffocation of a child who was abused and the joy of being free in the nature, they really didn't  gel together. The story of child abuse could have been made into a completely new film to give it the importance that it deserves.

But in trying to punch together two stories, the one about the spirit of freedom and the other about child abuse, made the whole film lose its bite and confused me about the issue that the director wanted to talk about.

Great photography, great music. Alia Bhatt is very good, but I found her overacting a bit. Randeep Hooda is spot on and will go a long way with his rustic look and intense eyes.

I give the movie 2 stars, because of trying to punch two stories in one film.
